FASEB Comments on Microbiome Research

By | June 18, 2015

On June 12, the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) submitted a letter to the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) in response to their Request for Information on microbiome research. Comments in the letter were drawn from a recent Breakthroughs in Bioscience article, “The Human Microbiome: Your Own Personal Ecosystem.” The article identifies a number of areas that remain crucial to our understanding of the human microbiome, such as defining what constitutes a normal microbiome, exploring the effect of the gut microbiome on other physiologic systems, and developing methodologies that can reproducibly analyze vast amounts of data.
