On July 5, the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) endorsed U.S. Senate bill S.2744, the “Genetic Research Privacy Protection Act,” which aims to enhance privacy protections for research participants. The bill would strengthen Certificates of Confidentiality and clarify Freedom of Information Act exemptions for human subjects research data. In its letter, FASEB also commended the bill’s cosponsors for extending available protections to any biomedical research information that could potentially be used to deduce a participant’s identity.
