The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology on June 22 will host a workshop in partnership with the National Institute of General Medical Sciences to explore the effects on the scientific enterprise of misrepresented or overstated research results. The workshop will bring together scientists, journalists, institutional public information officers, and other stakeholders to discuss the goals and pressures shaping the dissemination of research findings, and opportunities to improve communication practices. The agenda includes a keynote presentation from Erika Check Hayden, a veteran science journalist and director of the Science Communication Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz, followed by four panel discussions. The workshop will be held on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland. Members of the public are encouraged to watch the session live or later on the NIH Videocasting and Podcasting site.
