New National Science Foundation Fact Sheet from FASEB

By | August 9, 2017

The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) has created a new factsheet,
“The National Science Foundation: Fundamental Research Leads to Discovery.”
The factsheet highlights the importance of National Science Foundation (NSF) funding to basic science and includes graphics on NSF funding trends and overall funding sources for basic science research.

Policy makers  need to be reminded of the crucial importance of  NSF to the nation, as illustrated by the proposed cut for the agency in the President’s FY 2018 budget and the NSF funding recommendations for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 approved recently by the Senate Appropriations Committee – decreasing support for NSF by $161 million from FY 2017. The new factsheet can be a helpful tool for FASEB member societies and others in making the case for federal NSF support.
